Mid-Year Update on the 2016 Strava Challenge

It's what you've all been waiting for - the mid-year update of the 2016 Tritons Strava Challenge!

Posted on Monday 30th May 2016

Cycling

The battle continues between Aaron Davis (in 1st place), with a total time of 56:57, and Anthony Arthur (in 3rd place) on 59:42. With Anthony recently narrowly beating Aaron in the Age Group Triathlon, this rivalry will be one to watch!

The two are separated by Big Sy who sits in 2nd place with a total time of 58:12. If Big Sy could reveal his full name to a member of the committee, that would be most helpful!

The only female to complete all 5 segments so far is Nadine Bubner - come on girls!

Tuesday morning rides often provide an opportunity to notch up times on the Peak, Mount Butler and Repulse Bay and Saturday mornings for Shek O and Disney. Let's set a few segment records over the next few weeks.

This Saturday's TT Bike Clinic is set to take on the Full Disney segment, so watch out for a few PRs over the weekend.

Running

Alex Kolb is the only Triton to have completed all 4 run segments.

Following Sunday's running group's attempt to set records on the Bowen Road segment, Anthony still holds the fastest time in a blistering 14:49.

Last week the runners chose the Racetrack as their training ground. Laurent Laclaverie is the sprinter holding the track record of 4:53, with Toby Chu closely following on 4:58.

Look out for more updates at the end of June.

Overview of the Strava Challenge

The Tritons Strava Challenge has something for everyone! We’ve selected a variation of run and ride segments to test you, and an open water swim to complete to finish off the challenge.

The 2016 challenge runs from February 1st to November 30th 2016, so there's still plenty of time to record your times!

You can attempt each segment as many times as you like - only your fastest time will be added to your cumulative time for each of the disciplines and overall.

How to get involved

1) Join Strava -https://www.strava.com

2) Join the Tritons Triathlon Club Strava group https://www.strava.com/clubs/tritons-triathlon-club

3) Sign up to HTTP://WWW.MATESRACE.CO.UK, by "log in with Strava" and accept the terms and conditions (only the first time)

4) Upload each segment attempt directly to Strava from recording devices (such as Garmin or iphone etc). Matesrace will automatically receive your times for these segments from Strava.

Swimming

An open water swim will be scheduled in late October, followed by a BBQ.

Prizes will be awarded at the annual dinner.

The rules:

  1. You have to complete all 9 run and ride segments, plus the final open water swim by 30 November 2016.
  2. Your fastest times as recorded on Strava during the period defined, on the segments listed, will be added together to give you a final time. You may attempt each segment as often as you need to record your quickest time. The fastest time is the winner for each discipline and overall.
  3. An equal opportunities club (we know our men are often chicked, but they should still be rewarded for participation), prizes for both male and female Best Strava Rider, Best Strava Runner, Best Strava Swimmer and overall Tritons Strava Queen & King of 2016 will be awarded.
  4. Because Triton’s is a triathlon club, you need to complete all the segments and the swim to be in contention for any of the prizes.
  5. You are not permitted any motorised assistance on any of the segments, however you are allowed to draft and ride in packs or use the force of a good typhoon wind to achieve the fastest times.
  6. Strava times are final. Only complete rides uploaded directly from recording devices (such as Garmin or iphone etc) should be used - uploaded GPX files, cropped rides, or rides that do not have a logical start and end point will be reviewed by the Tritons Strava anti-doping Police (afterwards known as the Tritons Digital EPO Po-Po)
  7. You must upload your activity within 2 weeks of doing the segment. No Sand-bagging here! Our Tritons Digital EPO Po-Po will be watching upload times very closely!
  8. The challenge (ok, let’s be honest- competition) is open to all via our Strava Tritons club page here:https://www.strava.com/clubs/tritons-triathlon-club
  9. Whilst everyone is welcome to join the page and race against the clock, only those registered Tritons members will be in the running for the prizes for Best Strava Rider, Best Strava Runner, Best Strava Swimmer and overall Tritons Strava Queen & King of 2016.
  10. The Tritons Digital EPO Po-Po will maintain the official leader board times and oversee adherence to the rules and spirit of the competition.
